Tip top taxes

Posted by on May 11, 2018 with 0 Comments

Volunteers with the IRS VITA program at Mitney Center lead by Daphne Smith helped 590 taxpayers file their returns during tax season this year. The VITA program is free of charge to participants and helps to bring important tax dollars to the government which in turn provide for important community services like schools, parks and sanitation. We appreciate Daphne and her team for their hard work and dedicated efforts to provide this important service to people in the community.

Posted by on May 11, 2018 with 0 Comments

Adults in the Spring 2018 session of Mitney’s BOOST (Building Opportunities and Options for STart-ups) program are both new and established entrepreneurs learning how to build sustainable businesses. The curriculum and workshops are designed to teach participants important skills such as research and planning, projecting, budgeting, marketing, setting up their corporations legally and solving operational challenges so they can expand and be more productive. The BOOST program is funded by the USDA Rural Development, The Frances P. Bunnelle Foundation, Bank of America Charitable Foundation and many generous donors to The Mitney Project. We look forward to following these motivated entrepreneurs as they forge their path to fortune!

BOOST and Boeing

Posted by on February 5, 2018 with 0 Comments

In November 2017, Mitney’s Board Chair and Director of Economic Development for the City of Georgetown, Dr. Gloria Tinubu (bottom photo, left) brought representatives from Boeing to Mitney Center to discuss aircraft and spacecraft manufacturing and the importance of STEM learning in this field.  Students from Mitney’s BOOST STEM program and the community, together with their caregivers, attended this fun and engaging chat session and learned a great deal about the company from representatives, Frank R. Hatten, Jenny Vanoss and Pamela Cole (bottom photo, right to left). A few even won prizes during the Q & A session! Thank you Dr. Tinubu and Boeing!  This summer, Boeing will return the favor when they will host a group of our summer campers. If you would like your child(ren) to be included, call (843) 546-7900 and inquire about summer camp registration.
