BOOST Program

The Mitney Project’s BOOST (Building Opportunities and Options for STart-ups) program nurtures participants’ self-sufficiency by helping them to develop sustainable businesses.

This FREE intensive 65-hour BOOST Biz Camp is for adults ages 19 and older and youths after-school ages 13-18 who are interested in entrepreneurship. It is for people starting a business for the first time or who would like to make their current business stronger.

 

Spring 2018 Session of the Youth Biz Camp: March 5 – May 17, 2018, Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays,  5:30-7:30pm.

Led by a certified instructor, BOOST BizCamp students come up with a business idea and then work to complete a business plan. At the end of the camp, students present their plans to a panel of judges for a chance to win seed capital. Camp activities include:

  • Classroom lessons: the curriculum covers a range of topics such as return on investment, supply and demand, opportunity recognition, and marketing.
  • Field Trips: Students visit local communities and meet local entrepreneurs.
  • Guest speakers: Entrepreneurs and business professionals bring the outside world into the classroom, presenting on various topics to complement lessons being taught throughout the course.
  • Business plan competition: Students present their business plans to a panel of judges and compete for seed capital.

Finalists will then work with experienced Individual Development Team coaches (IDTs) for a year to create and implement a plan of action leading to the establishment of their business or the sustaining of the participant’s existing business

2018 Adult Biz Camp Session and Workshops: Thursdays 5:30-7:30PM, March 8-May 17, 2018 then Mondays through Thursdays, 5:30-7:30PM from May 21-June 7, 2018.

Adult biz owners

If you already have a business, you can enroll only the BOOST workshop you need. Some examples are:

  • Bookkeeping basics
  • Setting up your business legally
  • Managing production, distribution and operations
  • Managing purchasing and inventory
  • Planning for growth
